Was your home/building built prior to 1978?
WHY? >>
In 1978 lead in paint was banned. Prior to this date lead was used in paint as a pigment and to make the paint wear better. It was most commonly used on high impact surfaces such as door frames, window troughs, and exterior surfaces. Cromwell Environmental can help to identity the areas in the home/building that do contain lead-based paint.

Are there children or pregnant women living/playing in the home/building?
WHY? >>
The smallest lead dust particles cannot be seen but they can get into the body. The dust and chips from lead-based paint are dangerous when swallowed or inhaled, especially to small children and pregnant women. Lead can affect children’s developing nervous systems, causing reduced IQ and learning disabilities. In adults, high lead levels can cause high blood pressure, headaches, digestive problems, memory and concentration problems, kidney damage, mood changes, nerve disorders, sleep disturbances, and muscle or joint pain. A single, very high exposure to lead can cause lead poisoning. Lead can also affect the ability of both women and men to have healthy children. For more information please go to www.epa.gov

Are there areas of your home/building that have old peeling/cracking paint?
WHY? >>
Painted surfaces that are not intact (cracks or chipping paint) are a greater risk to occupants. Lead particles enter the body by breathing or swallowing lead dust, or by eating soil or paint chips containing lead. In most cases, lead-based paint that is in good condition is not a hazard. Cromwell Environmental can assist with identifying the areas of the home/building that are hazards and may be in need of stabilization.

Are you planning to remodel in the near future?
WHY? >>
Removing lead-based paint improperly can increase the danger of exposure. Take precautions before you or your contractor begin remodeling or renovations that disturb painted surfaces (such as scraping off paint or tearing out walls). Cromwell Environmental can help to identity the areas in the home/building that do contain lead-based paint.
